Long Year...

I can't believe that it has been a year since I have written here! It has been a long year. Last update was that I was engaged. Well, that is still the case. Still engaged however my life has taken a turn. The Coach had quite his job and was in the process of moving to Chicago with me when due to some crazy turn of events the head coach position of the basketball team he was the Assistant coach of became open. So we talked about it and we decided to change all plans and have me move to Missouri so he could take his dream job.

Now trust me, I have never been the kind of woman to follow a man for his job but being the egalitarian person that I am and since the Coach quit his job and was moving when this all happened, I sucked it up an moved to Jefferson City, MO at the end of July.

So, we have bought a beautiful house, got a crazy puppy and are settling into suburbia. I was luckily able to keep my job as a recruiter at the same company I was at in Chicago and now work from home.

However, I miss Chicago terribly. I thought I had left the small town behind when I left PA a year and a half ago but here I am. I guess we all do crazy things for love. I think that the hardest part is not knowing anyone and not having friends here. So, we are on a 5- 7 year plan to be here then we will see. I want to move back to a city at that point (I know, life happens but that is my goal). While here I am trying to make the best of it; I am volunteering at PP, taking the dog to training classes, I am starting a wheel pottery class tonight and I eventually want to get my Masters degree.

So that is where I am at. One of the reasons that I haven't written was being so busy in Chicago and then with the move. Now that we are settled I have a lot more free time so I am hoping to start writing again. Although we have all heard that before. I have been keeping up a lot more with all the feminists blogs (as an outlet for all the conservationism here) so some posts may be more political, just a heads up. Anyway, it feels good to be writing again, I missed it and all of my readers!

Life Update

I have been a busy busy girl the past couple of months. Here is the run down:

Planning a wedding is NOT easy. Especially with so many options. This has got to be easier in a small town where you have 3-5 choices and one is the fire hall. In Chi-town there are literally hundreds of choices. We have been looking for almost two months and still haven’t found a site. It also doesn’t help that my fiancé is 7 hours away… Makes a gal want to fly off to Tahiti and get hitched on the beach

I quit my job

Well, I quit because I was offered another position. I was recruited by another company. So now I am doing close to the same thing I was before but I got about a 40% pay raise. Plus great benefits, money to go back to school, and money for a health club membership; among other things. Oh, and did I mention the free concert tix? Yeah, the office went to The Frey concert last night, on the offices dollar. Rock.

I found out that they are converting my apartment into a condo. Looks like I have to move soon. Ugh, I hate moving.

Oh, I got two Kittens!! One of which is laying in my lap as I type this. Tamba and Polamalu. Yes, they are named after football players. I remember when I used to name cats after literary characters… oh how times have changed.

(Nothing too exciting. Now you see why I haven’t been writing)

I Don't Ask for Much...

On a happier note, my hot water is fixed!!!!

After many phone calls, some digging into Chicago Tenet Law, and an angry letter to my leasing company with lots of legalese threatening to withhold rent, a group of plumbers showed up at my apartment.

The Coach was here when they came and he said that they told him that they did three days worth of work in an afternoon. And “Voila!” it’s fixed. If anything it is too hot. But I will take it, it’s better then no water at all.

I even got a new shower head to boot!

Others in the building have come up and thanked me. Apparently, they have been trying for years to get it fixed to no avail. I have become a bit of a building superstar.

So, this goes to show ya, a little tenacity, research, and an angry letter will get you far.

Missing...

This week has been tough. It has been a year since my dad died and it’s been hard to swallow. It doesn’t help that today is Fathers Day. Everything I see and hear today makes me sad.

I miss my Daddy.

This whole week has been rough, but the coach has been here so it helped. He has a great shoulder to cry on.

I guess that I am going to write for now. Not much to say, except maybe appreciate your Dad. They won’t always be there.

Happy Fathers Day.

Gotta Start Somewhere...

It has been a long few weeks since I have written. Nothing to exciting, but fun none the less. I have been trying to figure out how to tackle everything and write about it. I think instead of one of my quick outline posts I will write a number of short posts and spread it out a bit. The question is where to start. Do I start at the beginning and move forward or do I start with the present and write about what happened in a non cohesive manner. I think I decided on the later due to my amusing weekend. So here it is in a nut shell.

Friday:

Worked as usual. Didn’t get nearly enough done. Have a shit load to do when I get in on Monday. Ugh.

Dragged my friend Laura to the Oak Lawn Community Theatre Production of Titanic: the Musical that one of my co-workers was in. Oh yes, community theatre at its best.

Thank God it was better then the National Touring Company production I say at PSU.

Saturday:

Met Nick for lunch at the yummy Mexican restaurant in his neighborhood.

Went to the Printers Row Book Fair (see photo) and bought lots of cheap books.

Met Dave Eggers author of A Heart Breaking Work of a Staggering Genius and he signed my book.

He is a total hottie.

Got so flustered, forgot to take picture.

Set outside at a bar all afternoon with friends and drank and ate the afternoon away. It a perfect Chicago afternoon.

Finished the day by going to a strip club with two other ladies and a guy.

Got a lab dance.

Sunday:

And on the 7th day, I rested.

Springtime in Chi-town

It’s spring time in Chicago and the city is tulip crazy. Last weekend the Coach and I wondered around the city and enjoyed the beautiful weather. Life has been good if not a little boring. Nothing too exciting to report.

Jeeze, I remember the days when my life was exciting. Well, it was exciting but I wasn’t quite as happy.
