Settling In
So, I am finally getting settled into the Windy City. After arriving last Tuesday, I quickly found an apartment (after the original apartment fiasco) and moved in on Thursday. The downside to moving in so quickly was that they were not able to turn on the gas for the stove till yesterday. Which didn’t happen and I am now in a Battle Royal with the gas company. Song long story short, I now have to wait till Thursday. Did I mention that I did not bring a microwave? Yeah. So I have been making due with eating out or eating in with food that does not require cooking, like cereal and sandwiches, or cooked on the George Forman. Also, I had been having to use a café a couple of miles away for all of my internet needs. My phone and DSL will be set up by Wednesday at the latest, then I will be able to really start the heavy job search and catch up with all my blog reading duties.
Till then my time will be spent, like it has been the past few days, with hunting for things for my apartment. The stuff that I brought with me has been sourly lacking so I have been scavenging at Target and Ikea, aka: my two favorite stores in the world. The only two rooms I have done are the kitchen and the bathroom. My bedroom has my blow-up mattress and that is about it. My bed is coming from PA in a week or two.
Oh, and have I mentioned how HUGE my apartment is? It even has a fucking dining room! A dining room!!! What the fuck am I going to do with a dining room? I guess buy a dining room table and chairs and have dinner parties. Which I think is a good plan. I will post some pics of the place in a few days. But yeah, so I have two enormous rooms in the middle of my place with nothing in them, besides two floor lamps (thank you Ikea).
Although after my Battle Royal with the gas company yesterday, I went out and bought a couch and loveseat!!! I am very excited about my purchases and they will be here on Monday. I am just happy that someone else will be dragging them up the three flights of stairs to my top story apartment.
On a note about m love life, I went to Missouri last weekend to see the Coach and meet the family. We had a great time, even though he took me to FIVE basketball games (my first, I have never been to a basketball game in my life. I told the Coach that it was like loosing my virginity in an orgy) and I dragged him to see Brokeback Mountain (good movie but I thought Walk the Line was better). Anyway, his family was amazing. Good, friendly people; much better then B’s parents, who were a nightmare, so I am thankful. They made me feel welcome and like one of the family. So the Coach and I are going to try to meet each this weekend in-between his home and Chicago, in Springfield, IL, for one night, then he is coming to Chicago the weekend after. So, things are going well and moving quickly. I have never had feeling like this so quickly into a relationship and even though there is still some fear, I also am very happy.
Anyway, gonna get going an old friend from highschool who also lives in Chi-town is coming over and bringing Indian food. God, I love living in a city.
